The home of the English language is the perfect place to learn it.
Where to study
Choose the environment that suits you best. Do you want to be in a big city, a
small town, by the sear or in the countryside? In a small language school or a
larger college? Whatever your preference, you’ll find accredited language
centres in all part of the UK – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland.
You might be drawn to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of London or Edinburgh, or the
world-famous university cities of Oxford and Cambridge. Maybe you would prefer a
centre in a smaller town, or one based in an old manor house in the peaceful
countryside? Seaside locations, especially on England’s south coast, are also
popular choices, particularly during the summer. You can also choose between the
various types of language teaching centres. Private language schools will offer
a different lifestyle to universities and further education colleges.
Cost may also be important so consider all the options. There will be price
variations between the different regions of the UK. Studying in a big city may
work out more expensive than in the countryside. Make a few comparisons before
making your decision. Accommodation varies in price, too. Staying with a family
is usually the most cost-effective option as breakfast and dinner are often
included.
Tips on choosing a course
- Choose the right course for you by asking the following questions:
- How long is the course?
- How many hours of teaching are there each week?
- How many students are there in each class?
- How much are the course fees?
- What’s included and are there any extras such as course books that I have to pay for?
- What type of accommodation is offered and how much will it cost?
- Can I take examinations or gain qualifications?
A reputable language travel agent or you local British Council office can offer
advice on selecting a course.
